Archive for the ‘Methods followed to study children’ Category

Generally, children are studies with different aims. They are, understanding and describing child behavior at each of physical, social, emotional and intellectual areas. Guiding children after identifying individual personality according to the rate of development of children, identifying children with behavior problems, building theories in child development and testing je hypothesis regarding child development

There are some major methods are followed to study the children. They are anecdotal, biographical, observation, experimental and questionnaire. In anecdotal method recording incidental observations are carried out. It is simply observing and recording certain events in the life of the child. These recording are used in understanding child behavior. This is an old method.

In biographical method, the biographer, often the father, the mother or a close relative of a child observes and records the behavior of the infants and young children. In observation method, by observing children over a period of time we may arrive at a clear impression about them.

Experimental method is one which is used by the child psychologists I testing their prediction. In this method, the experimenter begins with the prediction but it is not possible to test all the predictions in child development by experimental method.

In a questionnaire method list of questions about the subject of research may be given to the parents, teachers or to the child himself to know about the child. In interview method information is collected through face to face communication.
